Criminals use signal jammers to steal from cars outside schools in Ñuñoa

Residents of Villa Frei reported thefts from vehicles parked outside schools while parents dropped off their children. A jammer left the cars unlocked.

On March 23, 2025, Meganoticias reported on a criminal method that has been repeating itself in Ñuñoa, a district in the Santiago metropolitan area.

According to the report, residents of Villa Frei said that, in the mornings, individuals have been using signal jammers to steal from vehicles parked outside schools on Dublé Almeyda Avenue. The jammer keeps the cars from locking remotely when parents get out to drop off their children, and the vehicles are left unlocked.

The criminals take advantage of the minutes when parents go into the school. Residents identified one of the suspects as a man in a light-colored suit who walks around the area looking like a businessman, possibly to avoid raising suspicion.

In the words of a resident who was interviewed: “I know there are cameras, the school has cameras, but I think there aren’t enough (…) A car can be recovered with a lot of effort, but a person’s life can’t be repaired.”
